MoreLiving Space is the area of the Sacred Space website where you will find commentaries on the daily scripture readings. These are written by Frank Doyle SJ unless other contributors are credited.
Using the Living Space calendar, you can select a day or a reading. Please note that the calendar may differ from region to region and cannot take account of all the regional variations.
You will see that there is a calendar on the right of all Living Space pages. This shows three days past and a dozen or so ahead. You can see the full calendar for the year here (later). The format (as can be seen in the example below) is as follows: the name of the day will show you the texts available for that day - First Reading and Gospel commentaries. You can choose from those available or go directly to the reading by clicking on the reference under the day name. The reference on the left is the full commentary on the First Reading, the second scripture reference will take you to the Gospel commentary.

Thank you for Sacred Space. I appreciate your exposition of the lectionary as well as your leading me to childlike faith in the Triune God who beckons me to prayer, enfolds me in love, and encourages me to live in his presence. Fr. Doyle, you and your staff are in my daily prayers.

I like the new style. Clear and easy to use. I have found the commentaries on the daily readings extremely useful. Again they are easy to understand and although I am a Huguenot protestant by descent and inclination the insight they provide are a source of real inspiration and provide a useful starting point for a daily examination of one’s belief and way of life. Thank you.

Hi, Fr.! I can hardly tell you how much of a prayer aid your words are! I truly believe that reading the Bible is very important but find it difficult to understand sometimes…at least until I started reading your material on a daily basis. Your writing opens up the Biblical texts to me and bring them alive in a way I haven’t found anywhere else! Thank you so much & God bless you and all of your work. Yours in Christ, Chris.

I read the lectionary as part of my prayer practice in the morning. During the middle of the day, I have made a habit of coming to both Sacred Space and Living Space for spiritual refreshment and centering. The commentary on the daily scripture is especially helpful to me, as it often uncovers completely new dimensions of the scripture that I would not have been exposed to otherwise.
I also love the new format.

I have been reading the bible verses and commentaries since the beginning of Advent 2007. I have gained spiritually and in my daily living by being focused on a small number of verses with background material and application to daily life as a Christian. Thank you for the time and thought that have been put into this project.

Father Doyle’s commentaries are an invaluable part of my daily life. The detailed historical background on the daily readings coupled with Father Doyle’s deep insights have made the Holy Bible come alive for me and has brought me ever closer to Jesus.
